For anyone who is familiar with Mary Black’s New Key to Weaving, you may
have seen Joyce Chown’s name on some of the weaving samples. Well, Karen
Braun and I met her yesterday at a South Landing Craft Centre yarn sale in
Halifax. What a wonderful lady, so many stories and so much knowledge.
So Karen asked her to come to the potluck on Tuesday, and I got her number
to officially invite her. I just got off the phone with Joyce, and she’s
going to come, Karen will be so pleased. To top things off, Brenda, the
woman who is hosting the potluck, has Mary Black’s loom in her living room.
Joyce also told me which house Mary Black and her sister lived in during the
last part of their life in Wolfville, so much history in this area. The
southern US has Graceland, Egypt has the Pyramids, Paris has Jim Morrison’s
grave, we have Mary Black’s house.
I can’t wait until Tuesday.
